Nucleopolyhedrovirus
e.g. nucleopolyhedrovirus
Nucleopolyhedrovirus (NPV) is a naturally occurring viral disease of caterpillars. NPV particles infect caterpillars via ingestion, spreading to the blood and tissues. After infection occurs, the feeding of the larvae will be disrupted substantially, before the caterpillar eventually dies. After death, the skin of the caterpillar will rupture, spreading the disease to other caterpillars nearby.
